Description

Profusely decorated with etched bands of a design composed of trophies of arms and military accoutrements upon a granulated ground with traces of having been originally gilt; the skull is fashioned with a pronounced roped comb, the visor pierced with a horizontal ocularia, the ventail, with breathing holes, is secured by a hinged staple and turn buttons. From the Thill Collection. Provenance: Purchased by William Randolph Hearst from Christie, Manson & Woods, London, April 17, 1923 through William Permain, May 4, 1923.
