Description

Winter scene of skaters representing the season. A renaissance chateau on the shore of a frozen lake is placed in the center of the background surrounded by a peasant scene and a farmhouse ablaze. Part of a set of two works representing the seasons copied from the famous "Brussels Renaissance" theme known as the months of Lucas after Lucas Van Leyden. Provenance: Louis Phillip I until 1850. Mr. George O. Hovey, Boston; by descent, the collection of Mrs. John T. Morse, Jr.. Purchased by William Randolph Hearst from French and Co., New York, October 15, 1931.
