Description

Half suit of blackened armor in the style of the seventeenth century. Closed burganet, with umbril and visor, fluted bowl, ending in a perforated button. Plain gorget in two pieces. Short ridged breast, back with garde-reins. Arm defences consist of pauldrons, rere and vambraces, elbow caps, and mitten gauntlets with long cuffs. Long laminated taces extending to below the knee, with cops to the same. Horseman's suit.

Provenance: Purchased by William Randolph Hearst from American Art Galleries, April 30, 1923 for $200; sold to Gimbel Bros., Inc., April 30, 1941 for $169.
