Description

"Octagonal iron barrel mounted on beautifully carved walnut guard and stock, in which are incorporated very fine carved ivory panels depicting various mythological scenes. One of the panels also includes Coat-of-arms surmounted with coronet of Prince. The gun is further embellished by the patine of the wood and the ivory. Provenance: Purchased by William Randolph Hearst from P.W. French & Co., March 26, 1921 for $850; transferred to International Studio Art Corporation April 13, 1939 for $500; sold to Gimbel Bros., Inc., April 30, 1941 for $1078. "
