Description

Carved after old bronze. Side animal head handles with loose suspended rings, center decoration on the body carved in the form of conventionalized bats and human faces enclosed in bands of key patterns has original covers with Foo Dog knobs and wood stands.

Provenance: Purchased by William Randolph Hearst from the Lee Van Ching Sale, Anderson Galleries, January 3-5, 1929, catalogue # 2306, lot # 616 for $375; sold to Gimbel Bros., Inc. March 31, 1941 for $189.
