"The straps are reinforced with copper-gilt bands enameled in white and blue. The bosses are of gilt copper, circular in shape, with embossed centres. On these centers is engraved a curious allegorical composition, a man asleep with, beside him, a genius perched upon a skull; the whole relieved against a ground of blue and white enamel. From Arlincourt Collection. Provenance: Purchased by William Randolph Hearst from Arnold Seligmann, Rey & Co., Inc., April 24, 1924 for $624.52; sold to Gimbel Bros., Inc., March 30, 1943 for $140."
