Description

"The embossed decoration is of black steel upon a gilt ground. On the skull a combat between knights and Saracens; on the baseband scroll-ornaments connected by mascarons. On the comb, amid a number of trophies, recumbent figures of warriors, with a fortress in background. On the brim, sunken and gilt scroll ornaments.

Provenance: Purchased by William Randolph Hearst from Arnold Seligmann, Rey & Co., Inc., April 24, 1924 for $2,710.36; sold to Gimbel Bros., Inc., March 30, 1944 for $615."
