Description

"Plain barrel, lock decorated with worn engraving, Stock carved with bands of flowers and hunting scenes in relief. The initials R. W.V.P., a coat-of-arms and the date 1597 are engraved on an inlaid ivory plate. From the Zschille Collection. Provenance: Purchased by William Randolph Hearst from Samuel Austin Sale, through American Art Association, April 26, 1917 for $200; sold to Gimbel Bros., Inc., May 26, 1941 for $148.50. Provenance info found on jamesdjulia.com: World's Columbian Exposition 1893, Chicago. Collection of Richard Zschille 1897. Sam Austen 1917. William Randolph Hearst 1941. Joseph Kindig Jr., Collection of Dr. Douglas Sirkin. Also noted is a former owner named Dr. Ray Petry; sold from James D. Julia, Inc. to unknown on October, 2013 for $33,350."
