"The wheel cover of engraved brass; the barrel retains its original blued surface and is inscribed DEN 8 April 1598, the stock inlaid with designs of figures, hares, hounds, etc. (The sliding cover of the pyrites chamber does not belong to the piece). Provenance: Purchased by William Randolph Hearst from Sotheby & Co., London, June 20, 1929 for $97.33; sold to Gimbel Bros., Inc., July 30 1943 for $139."
