Description

"The entire stock lavishly embellished with inlaid designs in bone, depicting an extensive range of zoological specimens, tropical and otherwise; the butt-trap cover shows a stag hunt; the octagonal barrel is rifled and stamped at the breech H. B.; the wheel-cover is of embossed and pierced gilt metal en suite with the fingered trigger guard. Provenance: Purchased by William Randolph Hearst from Sotheby & Co., London, England, May 3,1927 for $973.25, but paid $748.25 after a [Insurance Recovery voucher] of $225; sold to Gimbel Bros., Inc., Feb. 23, 1942. Price unknown."
