Description

"The stock of carved walnut-wood enriched with buck horn, engraved with a cartouche design; the subject carved upon the inner side of the butt presumably the suicide of Lucretia; the rifled barrel dated 1587, and the initials P.O. are engraved upon a buck horn plate at the breech end. Provenance: Purchased by William Randolph Hearst from Christie, Manson & Woods, through William Permain, May 4, 1923 for $484.42; sold to Gimbel Bros., Inc., May 26, 1941 for $198."
