Description

"Globose crown with very low continuous twin combs, embossed and cabled. All the parts have a border delicately engraved with scroll-work and edged with narrow cabled edges. Wide, flat umbril, movable like the visor of a close helmet, the pivots ornamented with rosettes. Cheeks framing the face and meeting under chin. Each of them adorned with an embossed and engraved star of eight points. Plume-holder set above left ear. (Of a curious and unusual shaper, doubtless made to owner's specification). From the Dupasquier Collection. Provenance: Purchased by William Randolph Hearst from Arnold Seligmann, Rey and Co. Inc., April 24, 1924 for $925.67; sold to Gimbel Bros., Inc., July 30, 1943 (sales ticket 565) for $249."
