Description

Open helmet of pseudo-classical form. Skull decorated on either side with a bunch of acanthus-leaves, from whose conventionalized tips branch off scroll-ornaments boldly and gracefully designed. Comb with cabled edge, and decorated on either side with groups of figures in classical attire.

Provenance: Purchased by William Randolph Hearst from Arnold Seligmann, Rey & Co., April 24, 1924 for $1,969.82; sold to Gimbel Bros., Inc., May 30, 1944 for $235.
