Description

INTRODUCTION: Illicium verum is an evergreen plant grown in most Asian countries especially in China and used widely for its medicinal and natural benefits. The aim of this study is to evaluate the antibacterial effect of Illicium verum on Escherichia Coli (LIU-4) through the inhibition zone test and the bioactivity test.

METHOD: The inhibition zone involved the preparation of LB agar plates and observing the zone of inhibition around the sterilized disks containing diffused extracts. This is to confirm the presence of antibacterial activities in the plant. The bioactivity test was used to determine the effect of heat on the extract by boiling it for a specific amount of time and comparing the zones of inhibition to rule out if the extract is resistant or liable to heat. RESULTS: ---------.

DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION: The results obtained helped us to understand the properties of Illicium verum and its importance in antibiotics, food and medicine preparations.
