Description

INTRODUCTION: Many animals throughout the Winter either migrate to new areas of abundance, hibernate, or develop seasonal adaptations to the cold and lack of resources.

METHOD: We placed four trail-cameras across the LIU Post campus grounds during the winter, with the intention to observe what species of animals may trigger the camera, observe their behavior, then hypothesize whether or not they may persist throughout the course of the Winter going into Spring or if these are transient species only staying for a short period of time.

RESULTS: After approximately three months, trail-cameras were recovered, and the footage was analyzed.

DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION: By documenting the species over the Winter, we can make better informed decisions about habitat protection, grounds maintenance, and improve student awareness and appreciation for nature and campus biodiversity.
